Useful Tips For Buying A Red Rug

A red rug can add some much needed color to a room's decor or can coordinate with other items of interest, like bedding, curtains, pillows, wall hangings or lamps. There are some factors to keep in mind when buying such these products, as not all items are the hue or tone.

If you want a floor covering to match curtains or furniture prints, you should determine which shades of the color are already present. A color wheel used by interior designers or decorators can help identify the right tint, before purchasing a carpet that may not blend well with other features. There are bright shades that resemble the color of a fire truck. Lighter, more washed out shades are often seen in materials used in curtains and bedding.

Using a red rug that is brighter or lighter than the rest of the kitchen decor can look very odd. If you have a kitchen utensil or towel available in the desired color, you may be able to slip a stir spoon or spatula into your purse when you shop, so you can pick out the same shade.

There are many different types of dyes used in coloring red rugs. Some will bleed every time they get wet, while others will not. If the floor covering will be used over lighter carpet or on a light colored kitchen laminate floor, this could cause permanent stains. If bleeding is not a problem for you, you will still need to consider what the item will look like after it has lost some of its color and whether this will be acceptable to you.

Pay Attention To The Eco-Friendly Aspect

Make sure to read labels and verify that color dye can be used. If you cannot find such information, look to see where the item is made. Dyes used in India come from natural sources. While this is an environmentally friendly option, they do tend to bleed more than synthetic dyes. However, area rugs of this color on a dark tile kitchen floor might look a bit more natural, after they lose some color and you may desire this effect.

Fibers that are more resistant to stains, such as some polyester blends and wool, will likely retain their bright tone for a long time, without the need for repeated cleaning.
